Am surprised that average house was £12000, I was 20 year old, purchased semi detached house in Lancs for £6500 was on about £35/£40 pw, recall a beer was about 25p. so don't know where get those figures from
I was a junior clerk at Emgas and took home £28 a week after leaving school in 1976.
I was an apprentice carpenter in 1976, my first week's wages were the princely sum of £22.50, for a 60-hour working week, I was getting .49 pence an hour.
