Crawley in the 60s
Crawley New Town was designated on 9 January 1947. Building work began in 1950 and continued throughout the 50s and 60s.
Like most new towns, Crawley was built alongside an existing old town. There are historic old buildings in Crawley, as well as new, modern ones.
Crawley Centre was Queen's Square and The Martlets, above. The Martlets was a pedestrianised area.
